Training school advances Greenedge aims

From 4th to 8th September 2023, Oulu became a focal point for research and innovation in edge computing and environmental sustainability, thanks to the Greenedge – OULU Training School. Organised under the aegis of Greenedge, a project funded by the European Commission’s H2020 research and innovation programme, the training school was hosted by 6G Flagship’s Professor Marcos Katz. Professor Michele Rossi was also in attendance, lending academic gravitas to the occasion.

Greenedge is an MSCA Innovative Training Network that focuses on reducing the carbon footprint of machine learning and artificial intelligence in edge computing. While Greenedge establishes the larger research context, the Oulu training school focused on specific academic and professional development activities to further the project’s objectives.

The event encompassed a variety of topics, including project coordination, educational seminars, and skill-building workshops. Academic writing, 6G business development, problem-solving, critical thinking, and intellectual property rights were among the areas covered. Additionally, participants had the opportunity to engage in field visits to the University of Oulu and the Technical Research Centre of Finland (VTT), offering insights into how such theoretical research translates into practical applications.

Greenedge – OULU Training School was a collaborative platform for experts and early-stage researchers interested in the Greenedge initiative. The training school made a significant contribution to the sustained success of the Greenedge project and the larger goals of the 6G Flagship by bringing people together to discuss and learn.
